Giant Steps Waterfall by La-Vita-a-Bella Giant Steps Waterfall by La-Vita-a-Bella
This waterfall was a 12-mile round-trip hike into grizzly bear country. The regulations require that you hike in groups of four or more, so we tagged along with a group of people we met in the parking lot. The group ended up being the Sierra Hiking Club, who were some hard core hikers! It was challenging keeping up with them, to say the least! I generally like to stop for scenery shots, but they barely paused for anything. I only had about 20 minutes at the waterfall (to eat and shoot pictures). I wish I'd had more time because there were lots of interesting aspects to this waterfall, but I had to stay with the group.

If effort meant that your picture was greater, then this picture should be rated great! We were exhausted afterwards (especially since we'd gotten up at 3:30 am and only had 4 1/2 hours sleep)! :faint:

Ever found yourself with a dead cellphone and no power socket in sight to take a picture of this beautiful waterfall?

Well, now you can harness the power of the falls to help you with that!

I would have damned the torpedoes and stopped when it suited me. I might have been killed and eaten by a griz, but I would have stopped. Too far to go NOT to get what you came for.

Nice pic, in any event. As always.

I got the main photos that I came for, but there was another area that you could scramble down to for more shots. I probably should've gotten more sleep the night before...I don't function well on 4 1/2 hours sleep (especially since that was my third day of getting up early and staying up late) and I just didn't have the energy. I barely dragged my tired butt back to the car. There was also a thunderstorm headed in, so I was trying to beat the weather. I don't like being stuck in the middle of nowhere in a nasty storm...and since I'm not familiar with Canada's weather, I wasn't sure how bad it would get. We ended up not seeing any grizzly's on the hike which was both a relief and a disappointment. I had my bear spray and everything. I threatened to spray any cows that looked "mad" on the way home.

Back in my misspent youth, I often went for days and days on little to no sleep. Wasn't until I hit my 40s that it actually started catching up with me. Since then, I think my body has been trying to 'catch up.' Every now and then I will sleep damn near an entire Saturday or Sunday away. Hate it when it happens, but it is as unavoidable as [insert unavoidable malaise of your choice here], so all I can do is suck it up and try to move forward.

Of course, now, regardless how much sleep I got, I couldn't make a 12 mile hike of any kind. Back and knees are ate up with Arthritis.. some days it's all I can do to make the walk to my car at the end of the day.

Well, since I'm over 40, I'm sure you can understand that when a person is tired...they're just....tired. :icondragontiredplz: Gone are the days when I could stay up for several days. But so are the days where I could sleep until noon. lol!

Normally a 12-mile hike wouldn't phase me as much, but since my hiking has been pretty nil this year, my poor feet weren't used to all that walking. By the time I was done, I was considering whether the pain of chopping them off would be greater than the throbbing pain I was experiencing. lol!

Hack 'em off and you can get one of those nifty parking decals.. never have to worry about getting a parking space again. ;)

Except at Wal-Mart! They always seem to be full there! ;)
I could get one of those nifty decals just for a hurt foot...no need to chop it all the way off! :giggle:

Yeah, but a missing extremity will get fewer dirty looks than the otherwise hobbling around - which some folks just 'know' you're faking.
I rarely go to Wally World... it's my store of last resort. If I just absolutely can't find something somewhere else and I'm fairly sure they sell it there, then I will go. Otherwise, I tend to avoid the place. That whole "People of Wal-Mart" thing. People give me hives.

I've never understood the dirty look's thing in regards to a handicapped sign/sticker. If you have it, then you should be left alone. There are those who have had heart transplants or other things that you can't see and people shouldn't jump to conclusions. Now, if they park in a handicap space without a sign/sticker, then I hope a cop gives them a ticket.

Wal-Mart is a store I loathe. I won't say I've never shopped there. But I don't like the place. I get most of what I need from other places and reserve them for the occasional visit when I've forgotten just how much I hate going there.

:wow: This is an amazing place! Seems a real waste to only spend 20 minutes at a place like this, especially since you've hiked that far to get to it. But I, for one, really appreciate your effort, because otherwise, I'd have never seen this extraordinary place!

I once got stuck in a freak summer hail storm on a hike with no trees around. I was wearing a tank top and shorts and we ran down the hill, getting pelted by hail!!! I kept saying, "OUCH! OUCH!" lol! We were also laughing the whole time because it was just so crazy!

It seems the most memorable moments are from times when things went wrong or were more difficult. I need to remind myself of that when I'm in the moment. lol!
