Do you use an infrared filter, or do you manipulate your photos post shoot?

I currently use a camera that has been internally converted, but this image was captured using a filter on the lens of a camera I no longer own.

Do you have your cameras fixed at all so they only receive infrared? I've been reading about that, buts its nonreversible. From the commnents it looks like you used an infrared filter over the front of the lens. Are they a more expensive than UV or Polarising filters?

I used to use a filter on my camera, but now I have purchased a Sony DSC W-50 that has been converted to infrared only. It's much easier because I can do hand-held shots instead of everything having to be on a tripod.

lol! Yeah, it's definitely got that look about it. The thing I find that is amazing is that every camera reacts differently to infrared so you never know what kind of effect you will get until you try it.

I haven't run into a camera that won't do infrared, but I'm sure they're out there. Some of the older cameras are much better at it than the newer ones...before the manufactuers started putting on better blockers.

Better blockers? You mean they're adding things to keep you from doing infrared? Why would they do that?

There is a rumor that given the right clothing, an infrared camera could see through clothes. I have yet to see any types of pictures that substantiate that claim, but the manufacturers are apparently taking no chances. However, there is a company that will remove the blocker for you....for a pretty penny, that is.

How do you know if your camera has this "blocker" or not?

About the clothing...I know they have material they make swimsuits out of that let infrared rays pass through so you can tan without tan lines and not have to be naked to do it. I wonder if that is the kind of clothing the rumors are talking about? If infrared can pass through, then a camera might just be able to see through them too. Hmmmmm......

But.... tanning is done with ultra-violet, not infrared!

You can look on the internet for your specific model and see what people have to say about it and infrared. Other than that, you'd just have to buy an infrared filter and see how it goes. Most people seem to buy the Hoya infrared filter, but I'm a cheapskate and got mine on ebay by a maker called OEC. Seems to work just as well IMO and it was a lot cheaper.

Yes, all the males perk up at the thought of being able to see through clothes. :P
