Clearly, the distance to the waterfall is needed to show its overall beauty, completing the picture with the steep walls, lush greens, and in particular the giant boulders. I am most certain that a closer look at the falls might be nice as well, but I believe one would be left with a very different impression than the one gained from this image.
The composition of the frame is excellent; the waterfall serves as an instant focus point while subsequent elements of interest appear when they eye tire of the falls beauty itself.
Technically speaking, I think a little shorter shutter speed may have been a better choice; the image is so crisp that the softness of the waterfall does not quite fit in. But as you say yourself, shutter speed is a personal choice.
The only other, extremely minor, criticism that I have is that the boulders seems slightly too yellowish. While this makes them stand out more, which is a good thing, it also seems a little unnatural. If it was its natural color though then I hope you can forgive me.

Overall, I end as I began,
Beautiful!
