Question and Feature

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 7, 2010, 2:37 PM

I have a question...why do people hide comments on their pages?
I understand the occasional hide...you said something you didn't want the whole world reading or someone wrote something you thought was innapropriate.  But I've been to many pages where pretty much EVERY comment is hidden.
Why?
I'm just curious.

When I see a page like that, I always wonder what the person is trying to hide....

Oh, and lately we've been watching Top Gear on the BBC channel.  Dang that show is funny!

Oh, and don't forget...my calendar is up and ready for sale!
You know you want one! :D [link]

llamas happening?

I will try to explain this best as I can but this won't be easy. Comments disabled was done pretty much for those who do artist nudes in photography for obvious reasons (wow I so should write a journal about THAT and the maturity level between here and RB with regards to those images) The front page though, has been as it always has been, and it is one of those things that is the core principles of the site as a whole, communication. That is one thing that is hardcore tradition on here, and those who want it removed, just be glad that you have the ability to hide comments at all, when I started on this site, nothing and I mean NOTHING could he hidden or reported as spam. No such thing existed. If it was there, it was there.

Well I guess I just speak my mind, openly, and I think that maybe we are talking about 2 different people in general here. I am referring to the ones that know that people can't reply after they hide a comment, and quite frankly, it is downright rude. You leave a comment, something nice about their work, or you ask someone a question about a photo because it impressed you, and they respond back with something like 'thanks I did this', and u want to ask something else but are unable to. To the person asking the question it feels like a giant "Go F Yourself". Brutal? Perhaps, but very true as well.

You had said, "I honestly don't ever see it happening." (in regards to the comment module being optional) so I was asking if you'd ever see the llamas happening. I was just being funny. :D

I can understand some people not wanting the comments module on their front page. It probably looks kind of strange to people visiting their page who are dA users. But of course, this is just one of the MANY reasons why I have never used dA for professional reasons.

I was speaking of any type of person who hides all their comments, particularly on the front page. I am not sure that everyone realizes that once you hide a comment, it can't be responded to. I guess I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt until I know otherwise. Most of my watchers are very nice and considerate. And based upon their responses to my question, the ones who hide the comments do so for very decent reasons (nothing malicious). I can't say I agree with the hiding of comments (except in occasional instances of spam, rudeness, or you ended up having a conversation that got overly personal) but I also believe in 'to each his own'.

I skip over profiles that have all comments hidden...when I go on your page to thank you...if you have comments...I often open the first 5 or so in a new tab and look at their artwork...fave stuff I like...watch ones that have good pages...sharing art is what DA is supposed to be about... :)

I tend to shy away from those who have their comments hidden, too.

I also wonder what they are hiding, but instead of hiding I think it would be better if we could delete th comment instead. It would also be cool if we could edit or delete a comment we just wrote, cos sometimes I might make a mistake and want to edit it but then I can't

Yeah, it would be nice if we could delete/edit a comment, but it would create issues if a person had responded to the comment and then you changed it.
I have suggested to dA that they make the comment module on the front page optional.

It might cause issues, but what if there was a time limit on it or it is possible to edit the comment only once
